"Kill or Be Killed" is a tense and gripping short film that delves into the dangerous world of organized crime and the devastating consequences that come with it. The story follows two brothers, Cliff and Jimmy, as they make a difficult decision that will change their lives forever. At the story's start, we see the brothers meeting with the ruthless Franco Villani, who offers them a chance to earn half a million dollars by carrying out a hit for him. Initially reluctant, the brothers eventually agree to the job, and the rest of the story centers on their struggle to carry out the hit and avoid getting caught by the authorities. The tension builds throughout the film as the brothers argue and struggle with the moral implications of their actions. Jimmy is especially conflicted, and his conscience leads him to consider backing out of the job altogether. However, his loyalty to his brother and their desperate need for money ultimately forces him to go through with the plan. As the brothers carry out the hit, things quickly spiral out of control, and they find themselves in a dangerous situation that could cost them their lives. They must use all their cunning and wits to outsmart the police and Mr. Villani, who are hot on their trail. Off-Key is India Ongko’s visualization of Ferdy Talan journey of discovering himself, through Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Moment Musicaux Op. 16, No. 4 in E Minor. Growing up as a double minority, gay and of Chinese decent in conservative Indonesia, classical piano was Talan’s only outlet. It led him to New York, where he embarked on a decade-long journey of self-discovery, breaking through societal and self-imposed boundaries and limitations. This piece, as typical with Rachmaninov, is extremely emotional and shows many things that he feels at once. Like the composition, this short film is rich in counterpoint, reconciling Talan’s many identities and struggles.
